FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

PAVILION KUALA LUMPUR RADIATES LIGHT AND IGNITES HOPE THIS DEEPAVALI

Malaysia’s premier shopping destination, Pavilion Kuala Lumpur, launched this year’s Deepavali with the message of providing light and hope to all Malaysians at Fashion Avenue earlier today. The launch, which featured traditional and cultural elements of the auspicious festival, intends to bring light, which is the symbol of hope and positivity to the community.

The Festival of Lights was officiated by Ms. Joyce Yap, CEO of Retail, Pavilion Kuala Lumpur and Dr. Chee Choong Kooi, Principal of KBU International College at the fashion precinct that was designed to evoke the look-and-feel of a traditional Indian setting. A colourful kolam with intricate patterns was designed on the ground and garlands of flowers, which were accentuated with lights draped around the pillars, revealing Pavilion Kuala Lumpur’s very own
passage to India. Designed by KBU’s design students who were inspired by the colours and vibrant elements of the traditional Indian culture, patrons were also able to witness the finishing touches being added to the kolam as part of the experiential journey with Pavilion Kuala Lumpur.

At the launch, shoppers were able to witness the lighting up of the kolam, which is a traditional symbol of auspiciousness. Upon lighting up the kolam, they were then treated to a semi-classical dance by Mast Millenium Dancers, the leading Indian Dance Company in Malaysia. The dance performance was adapted based on popular Indian Bollywood dance and featured a colourful kaleidoscope of music, dance, and display.

The launch then continued with the dance performers leading patrons to Pavilion Kuala Lumpur’s iconic fountain, the Pavilion Crystal Fountain. The VIPs, mall management team, patrons and tourists in attendance were provided with coins to toss into the fountain, symbolising the casting of their hopes and wishes for a better future.

Speaking at the launch, Ms. Kung Suan Ai, Director of Marketing said, “Deepavali is a festival that celebrates the glory of light that brings hope and new beginnings. This year, Pavilion Kuala Lumpur aims to illuminate the hearts and lives of everyone through the simple act of casting coins and hopes into the iconic fountain. Through this experience, we look to bring a ray of light into the lives of every individual, and foster a sense of togetherness and hope.”

Patrons were then led to Fahrenheit 88 to experience and embody the culture through a display of Indian dance, music, cuisine, fashion, and home décor at the Deepavali bazaar. The tour of the bazaar encompasses a holistic approach to the festival and allows patrons to immerse themselves in a variety of offerings that are unique and significant to Deepavali.

The ‘Lights and Hopes’ festivities will run from 28 October to 10 November 2015, and all visitors are invited to delve into the Deepavali experience, while casting their own hopes into the iconic fountain during this festive period.
